Meet chile farmer Joel Tellez’s grandfather, Felipe Avila.  Born in 1876 in Mexico, he came to the Dona Ana County area in the late 1800’s and also raised cattle along the Rio Grande.

Within time, he was able to clear and purchase land a mile south of the village of La Union.  Here he and wife Rosa farmed and raised their family, one of whom was daughter Celia Avila.  She would marry Hilario Tellez.
